On January 11, 2019, we organized an artists’ excursion (and a hangout) searching for ruins and (colonial) remains in Pugu and Kisarawe regions of Tanzania. The aim was not only to encounter and converse with the many (troubled) stories and histories which connect us, and (in one way or another) define us as a people; but also to foster conversations between artists and storytellers who are custodians of these histories, allowing for the handing down of memories and (hi)stories which artists can carry back to their studios and use as source of (conceptual) inspiration.
